Our
Church's Pastoral Council
The Pastoral Council of the Church of Our Lady Star of the Sea,
promotes the spiritual growth and interpersonal relationship between
community members. Parish activities are organised by various
committees, linked by a co-ordinating committee.
Members of the Pastoral Council consist of Animators of the forty-five
Neighbourhood Christian Community and leaders of Church Groups.
For deeper spiritual awareness and enrichment, the Council organises
an annual Parish Convention, to which all lay leaders are invited to
attend. For special parish projects or celebrations, an ad-hoc
committee is appointed by the Council. The Council also assists NCC
Animators to plan the monthly meetings of the NCCs (including Bible
Sharing).
The purpose of the Neighbourhood Christian Community is to get as many
parishioners as possible, to be involved in Parish life. At each
Sunday Mass, the NCCs provide one warden and two persons for the
Offerings for the Offertory. NCCs also run the Sunday canteen and
organise the family Rosary Prayer/Prayers for the dead. NCCs play a
vital role too, in maintaining an accurate picture of the Parish
census.
To date, this new formula of the Pastoral Council has shown quite
positive results. Not only have the forty-five NCCs been functioning
since their formation on 25 October 1987, they are growing in
strength, deepening in fellowship and awareness - the foundations of a
genuine Catholic community.
