Help for Veritas Account Holders
This is a (no frills) compilation of various resources both on this site
and elsewhere which may be useful for Veritas Account holders.

File Transfer
From Sept 1st 2002 if you are not using the Veritas dialup it will no longer be possible to use ftp to transfer files to and from this server or to use telnet to change your passwd.
Access to the server will only be possible using SSH protocol. A suitable program called SSH (Secure Shell for Workstations) is available free of charge for educational institutions, non-profit organizations and individuals for non-commercial use from www.ssh.com (use one of the links at the end of the page, the file is called something like SSHSecureShellClient-3.2.9.exe) or another one called Putty from here.
If you are using Dreamweaver, Frontpage or other software which does uploads and downloads directly you will still need to use
SSH or PuTTY and configure your software to use it for file transfer using tunnelling. Dreamweaver's website explains the concept which can be applied to other software in a similar way.
The concept is that PuTTY/SSH opens a 'tunnel' for FTP to the server from your PC and you configure your software to send files using FTP to PuTTY/SSH on your local machine and it uploads them through it's 'tunnel'.
Using Frontpage
Contrary to popular belief it is possible to use Frontpage to maintain a website on a Linux Server using Apache without Frontpage extensions like Veritas.
Firstly create the initial basic site locally on your PC hard disk, then
using Tools/Page Options/Compatibility.
Set "Servers" to "Apache server"
and switch "Enabled with Microsoft Frontpage Server Extensions" OFF (no check mark)
This ensures that you cannot create any proprietary Microsoft items on your pages.
You should probably also disable ActiveX controls and VBScript as many users cannot use them properly.
When you are ready to publish your web you can make sure that SSH/PuTTY is connected to Veritas and choose File/Publish Web and type ftp://localhost:2021/xxx where 2021 is the Local Port Number you set up in SSH/PuTTY and xxx is the remote folder containing your website.
Changing Password
Use SSH/PuTTY to login to a Unix shell, then type password and press ENTER.
You will need to enter your old password again and your new password twice.
If you have saved your password on your PC you will also need to change it there to ensure correct login.
Outgoing Mail/SMTP Server
If you are using a non-Veritas dialup use their recommended SMTP/Outgoing mail server, otherwise you can use mail.veritas.org.sg.
The following info applies only to those who are using the Veritas dialup modem system.
Please note that this system is getting a bit old and you should perhaps consider using Starhub's free dialup system, or another ISP and set up only your mail system only to use Veritas.

Then, after dialling, follow the prompts in the black window.

If you are using Windows 95 and know how to use Dialup Scripting, you might like to try this script. In most browsers you can hold the SHIFT key while clicking to download it as a file to your disk.
Netscape/Explorer Proxy
No proxy is required as this is a business line, however all access does appear to be automatically routed through a Pacific Internet proxy server.
